Huck blends hazy slacker rock with bedroom pop + plays Mercury on NYE

Huck’s music is a product of the internet era. Brooklyn musician John Wolfe blends woozy slacker rock with the bedroom beats of SoundCloud in a way once unexpected but increasingly popular among DIY producers. His latest track “Scrimmage” sees Mac Demarco-style synths with tight production and the syrupy soft rap of Sophie Meiers. Elsewhere Huck leans into melodic guitar (“Summer Lovin’”) and stuttering electronica (“Without You”). A sort of slight eclecticism that merges styles moving with parallels. You can catch Huck live opening for Blac Rabbit at Mercury Lounge on December 30 or joining Goth Babe, B.Miles, and Pom Pom Squad at Baby’s All Right on January 30. Listen to "Scrimmage" below. – Cameron Carr

Huck releases "Does It?" and plays Elsewhere 4/29

Huck's latest single "Does It?" is a trippy meditation on what hurts and what doesn't. The song opens with a bell-like keyboard that floats in late-night thoughts and moments of longing, but the whole course of the song is changed with the drop of the first synth and the slow hits of a drum machine.  This song moves from a low-key tune to a synth jam in the space of three minutes, fading out with soft, re-pitched vocals, reminiscent of the ending of Frank Ocean's "White Ferrari." Catch Huck live at Elsewhere on Sunday, 4/29. -Geena Kloeppel

Huck brings playful soul-pop to BK Bazaar on 07.30

Playfulness takes center stage with Brooklyn-based four-piece Huck. The semi-electronic band provides a perfect soundtrack for summer, whether you’re cruising down the highway or sitting by the pool. Their single “Without You” (streaming below) takes cues from 8-bit music with its vintage video game sounds, while the arrangement in their other track available for streaming, “Summer Lovin’,” develops in a more linear and soulful way. Their quality songwriting and playful approach solidify them as a New York City artist to watch. - Lilly Milman
