Black Light Dinner Party

Black Light Dinner Party lands residency at Pianos + debuts videogame

Sure, your favorite band has a couple good tracks, but do they have their own video game? NYC electro-pop band Black Light Dinner Party, not only they've created a fun jam perfect for your next late night bout of drinking (i.e. their new track 'We Are Golden' - streaming below), but they've also invented a fish-killing video game to match.

Play it yourself at their site, and see them next when they play at their continued residency at Pianos on Wednesday, April 24th. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

NYC Artists on the rise: Black Light Dinner Party

Time to get magical. I'm talking about that all-night trip that can only be properly delivered by skinny doods dancing and singing along to deep bass, chirpy keys and auto-tuned lead vocals. This has become the sound of revelation for late-night revelers, so maybe Black Light Dinner Party have plenty to be happy about... but they're admittedly very good at making this combo work.

With a sound conjuring Passion Pit's penchant for inserting anthem-ready hooks into deep house grooves, BLDP have a couple good reasons for you to stay up late tonight. From the ridiculously catchy 'Older Together' (streaming below), to the house-party ready 'Gold Chain,' these guys have to dance about, and that's probably what we need right now. Check out their sampler on their Facebook, and tell them to start announcing some more dates! - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

NYC band on the rise: Black Light Dinner Party releases debut EP Party plays Cameo on 06.15

Black Light Dinner Party is dance music for people who don't just want to dance. Whatever else you'd like to experience while listening to the band is, of course, up to you. But for sure... when you listen to a song like 'Older Together,' you really can't help but move your head right along with your body - while hearing the group discussing their intimate details in tracks like the revealing 'Older Together.'

This kind of intimacy has come closer to the cultural surface these days. Groups like The Weeknd and Destroyer have equally pulled their life's messes inside the disco. But BLDP approaches this with an equal eye toward sonic retroness that lights up tracks like 'Gold Chain' like a breath of fresh air. It's an approach I haven't heard before, and it suits the group well.

Like the thinking man's Passion Pit, (and the young person's LCD Soundsystem), this is a group unafraid to add a lyrical weight to the dance floor, from a band as interested in the morning after as they are staying up all night.

Download their newest single 'Leave it All' (streaming below), and see them when they play Cameo live June 15th with St. Lucia and Slowdance. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
