BOYO

BOYO debuts charged indie rock single "Ghost Noise"

BOYO offers up a charged version of indie-rock music in his new track “Ghost Noise,” which starts with crisp electric guitar strums and finishes with a rich distortion worthy of the song’s name. Upbeat, with a drum pattern quite snappy, “Ghost Noise” displays BOYO’s ability to keep things fun but hardly uniform as the vocals on the track shift from passive verses suited for soft rock to vocalizing that is perky for pop. With piano key trickles to accent the changing rhythms, “Ghost Noise” is a pleasant song for winter just getting started; stream the new track below for some sonic heat. - René Cobar

BOYO releases new single "Take Me Away" (feat. Dent May)

Robert Tilden ponders an imaginary escape on "Take Me Away." The glistening standalone track under his moniker BOYO, which features psych-pop local musician Dent May, sounds like a lost, starry-eyed sixties chart-topper. Like most of his recent full-length debut, Me, Again, it also mirrors feelings of isolation and depression, as his swelling guitar arpeggios unravel with an acquiescent calm. As for recording with May, he was both grateful and awestruck by the experience, an opportunity that came his way after they both met at a music festival they were both playing together.

"Take Me Away" is out now via Danger Collective. Juan Rodríguez

BOYO releases new single "A Social Death By Proximity (Los Feliz)", new album out 1/19

On BOYO's first full-length 'Control,' Robert Tilden and his bandmates explored the trippy eccentricities of indie rock with pop songs that were slightly deformed in character. Endowed with a clever title that immediately reminded me of this Associates gem, "A Social Death By Proximity (Los Feliz)" is a fitting continuation of Tilden's anxiety-ridden explorations, keeping his inner chaos under control as a warm blanket of reverberated guitars mount into a surging chorus.

"A Social Death By Proximity (Los Feliz)" is the latest single off of BOYO's forthcoming LP, Me Again, which is out on January 19 via Danger Collective Records. Tilden will be celebrating the release with an all ages release show at the Bootleg Theater on January 25. Juan Rodríguez

Live Review: Slow Hollows at Teragram Ballroom 11/4

Sans the winding roads and $15 parking lots near Teragram Ballroom, Slow Hollows' album release party was a considerable success, drawing kids from as far out as Antelope Valley and Pomona to Los Angeles' decadent sidestreets. A gaggle of selfies were taken while waiting around the Ballroom's characteristic marquee, and at 9PM Danger Collective's BOYO (fka Bobby T. and the Slackers) had Robert Tilden promptly lulling the crowd—the band released their EP "machines" on Halloween. High school sweethearts and rowdy teens were thrown together as The Buttertones ripped through their setlist, which included songs from 2015's acclaimed western American Brunch. Someone lost their car keys, and someone else lost a shoe. At least four teens crowdsurfed, but everyone just stood and swayed and collectively sighed to the songs off Romantic, introduced by a very modest, somewhat blasé, endearingly ineffectual frontman and songwriter Austin Feinstein. The crowd just went like, yeah.

BOYO releases new single "Control", debut album due out 8/26

"Control", the new single by BOYO, is a sauntering psych-pop number that unspools in an unhurried manner. The group incorporates a smooth, Beatlesque chord progression that lulls the listener into passivity with its cosmic folk touch.

This is the first single off of their upcoming record of the same name, which is due out August 26 on Danger Collective Records. - Juan Rodríguez
