BOYTOY are a self-described “summer strut down a New York sidewalk,” but their most recent effort (and sophomore release) Night Leaf is the product of a West Coast environment, recorded at Pump House Studio in Topanga Canyon, California. The synthesis of a bi-coastal environment is immediately apparent on Night: we’re presented with tight, sundrenched guitar lines interwoven between raucous, New York-punk inspired vox and lyrics, manifesting a final product that reads as Mike Love by-way-of the Lower East Side. While many bands struggle to break free from the musical zeitgeist of their home environment, BOYTOY effortlessly bounds outwards into new sonic territory on Night Leaf, proving themselves as one of the more adaptable and exciting bands in NYC today.

BOYTOY will bring their coast-to-coast vision to new shores this September as they embark on their tour of Australia, beginning at Collingwood’s The Tote on 9/27. BOYTOY from NYC float somewhere between 60s surf jams and 90s grunge rock. Glenn Van Dyke and Saara Untracht-Oakner founded the band in 2013 with two guitars and drums, soon realizing bass wasn't necessary. They craft catchy, fuzzy, rock nuggets that create dreamy summer vibes all year round and have been regularly apperaing in the quality small venues around New York City and LA. BOYTOY just finished their first European and Puerto Rican tours with their current line-up including Chase Noelle on drums (formerly of Thelma And The Sleeze) and Lena Simon on bass (La Luz). With a 7” and single split 7” coming out in January, the four band members continue their migratory tradition to Los Angeles this winter including a Southern, West Coast and Northern tour of the U.S.. Last year, Saara Untracht-Oakner and Glenn Van Dyke of BOYTOY released their delectable debut LP, Grackle. Approximately one year later to the day, the Brooklyn garage-poppers unveiled the video for single “Wild One”, which chronicles a wild night of Untracht-Oakner and Van Dyke roaming around Las Vegas, leading to their rambunctious desert romp as depicted in their music video for “Your Girl”. As of now, BOYTOY are on the last leg of their first European tour. Throughout October, they've rocked venues throughout Italy, France, Spain, and the UK. In the days ahead, they’ll entertain the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland before heading back to Italy for one final performance in Varese. Whoever said Queens isn’t cool (hey! it's the new Brooklyn!) surely must not have heard of the Out In The Streets Festival coming to the Onderdonk House in Ridgewood for its fourth year on July 16-17.  Filled with some of our favorite local artists, such as The So So Glos and Frankie Rose, the festival is primarily a rock'n'roll fest. Bands will be playing with a backdrop of art, food and the Ridgewood market.  We’ve prepared a playlist to give a taste of the artists playing this weekend, but be sure to head over to the Out In The Streets festival to hear them for yourself. - Madeleine Grossman

With their unmistakeable Australian flair, the two front ladies of BOYTOY keep churning out super-hummable guitar pop gems that are likely to send listeners on an aural trip back to twenty years ago (that is, if you were already around then... if you weren't, check this out). Their brand new single 'Postal' (streaming) is pure pop bliss counterfeited as garage rock (without the over-polished, production of the mainstream genre known to the masses as pop-punk). It's a preview of the full length album 'Grackle,' arriving on October 2nd on PaperCup Music, a local label that's releasing albums by a lot of garagey Brooklyn based bands.
