Brothertiger

Brothertiger celebrates premier of new wave EP at Knitting Factory 02.21

It might seem like the electronica genre is ever pushing forward into the future, but Brothertiger’s focus hones in on the past, specifically the 1980s, for his source of inspiration. That focus is more than just a passing interest, and it’s clear that frontman John Jagos knows his stuff. Listening to his moody new wave vocals and analog synths brings to mind bands like Duran Duran and Tears For Fears, who Jagos proudly claims as an influence (he even covered the entirety of the latter’s album Songs From the Big Chair in 2017). Luckily for Brothertiger, there’s some new tech to take advantage of - and with the help of more refined and modern production, his music showcases those influences with stunning and lush results. Brothertiger will celebrate the release of his new EP A Chain of Islands at the Knitting Factory on February 21st - you can check out its featured single “Shallow” below. - Sunny Betz

Brothertiger opens for Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr at Webster Hall tonight (11.04)

Around since 2010, Brothertiger plays quintessential synth-pop, meaning that if Plato was still around he would tell you that the idea of "synth-pop" would sound very much like one of this band's songs (although we don't remember a part of his teachings where ideas would apply to musical genres...) Led by Brooklyn keyboardist John J., the project has already two LPs under its belt, and it's gearing up to drop a new full length record, entitled "Out of Touch." But before the release, Brothertiger will be performing a high profile opening gig at Webster Hall, where he'll be sharing the stage with  Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr - tonight November 4th.

The Future is Here with Brothertiger

Drawing from a more ambient corner of throwback synthpop than many of his contemporaries, Brothertiger may wrap his melodies in layer upon layer of ethereal textures, but they’re unmistakably present. The Ohio University alumni member possesses an ear for a hook combined with a knack for interlacing his electronic instrumentation in a lush but never overpowering manner. Having forged his style over a number of EPs and last year’s debut full-length "Golden Years," the prolific Jagos has investigated new territories on recently released "Future Splendors," describing the album as emphasizing “more futuristic themes.”
