Many people may be familiar with Charlene Kaye without knowing it - she's the energetic frontwoman of orchestral NYC band San Fermin.  However, she is also an accomplished songwriter who has been releasing solo records since 2012.  After the successful experience with San Fermin, the soulful singer has been refocusing on her own material and is about to release a new EP entitled “Honey,” under the new, simpler moniker Kaye. A development of the electro pop leanings of Charlene Kaye’s earlier work, Kaye’s full vocal and musical range is on display in the title track “Honey,” an empowering indie pop anthem, complete with a saturated sonic production featuring several edgy and distorted elements, bouncing between pop and rock. The “Honey” EP will be released on August 19th, and you can catch Kaye live at her EP Release show at Mercury Lounge on August 18th.  

Two talented NYC female artists, Emily Wildwood and Charlene Kaye, will be performing at Cameo this Friday (9/6). Synth pop-soul band, Talkfine (pictured) will be the opening act, and their 1970's style of singing paired with dads old casio keyboard is sure to amuse. Emmy Wildwood, (formerly of VELTA) will bring her pinup/cheerleader looks and dance-punk, pillow talk music to the stage. After releasing her solo debut this past July, Emmy is building buzz thanks to a strong live show and song that certainly don't lack hooks. Back for its third year, Tinderbox Music Festival — entirely composed of female musicians and female-fronted bands — showcased this past Sunday a diverse amount of genres with acts from all over the country playing on 3 separate stages. The event started at 1pm with folkier bands taking the stage in the morning, including a stand out performance by NYC  Jamie Bendell (pictured and streaming), whose beautifully raw and innocent voice blended perfectly with catchy acoustic guitar riffs and a grittier sound from the back-up electric guitarist. Other standouts of the day included: Hello Phones, the powerful and punky ohian group Jasper the Colossal, the endearing and talented Mal Blum backed by drummer and guitarist, and one of the last bands of the day, the wonderfully energetic Charlene Kaye and the Brilliant Eyes. The headliner, Coco Rosie, ended the night with an emotional and experimental set that had the audience entranced. Lately we've been giving a decent amount of exposure to NYC based singer songwriter Charlene Kaye, who showed impressive artistic growth in the last year or so.
