Delicate Steve

THIS SATURDAY! Deli sponsored LPR's Mini-Fest "Rubblebucket Dream Picnic" at the Knockdown Center

(Le) Poisson Rouge is known for bringing eclectic NYC artists together, and their upcoming, Deli sponsored, mini-festival “Rubblebucket Dream Picnic" keeps faith to this trend. The show gets its name from its headliner and curator of this event, Rubblebucket, a funkadelic, uber-fun pop band led by an ensemble of experienced multi-instrumentalists originally from "Jam Band State" (Vermont). Joining the group are other NYC acts with a similar flair for the fun and groovy: Delicate Steve, Alexander F., and Kalbells (check them all out in the event's playlist, streaming below). More than just this exciting lineup, the Rubblebucket Dream Picnic is an all-ages event starting at 3pm that promises a variety of games and food as well as yoga, special guest DJs and... DELI MAGAZINES!!! It's a great way to escape the city without traveling too far on one of the last warm weekends of the year, on 09.30 at Richmond's Knockdown Center - there will be a shuttle taking you there from the Cobra Club Bar every 15 minutes, see you there! - Amanda Ogea

Delicate Steve talks about pedals, plays Bowery on 02.03

If music is language, Delicate Steve‘s mother tongue is electric guitar – with an assorted stompbox accent. Few contemporary guitarists master the six strings’ vocabulary the way he does, unafraid as he is to experiment with tone, effects, and parts. The NJ based musician made ears turn in 2011-2012 with two instrumental records (‘Wondervisions‘ and ‘Positive Force‘) that showcased his imaginative, world music infused compositions. After a lot of touring, and a live album dated 2015, Delicate Steve is about to return with his third full length, entitled ‘This is Steve’ and scheduled for a January 27 release on Anti Records. Don't miss the show at Bowery on February 3rd!

Our friends at Delicious Audio asked Steve a few questions about his sound. Read what he had to say here.

Delicate Steve and People Get Ready at Mercury on 05.17 (tonight)

Tonight Thursday May 17, Delicate Steve and People Get Ready will be taking the stage at Mercury Lounge. Big things have been in the works for headliner Delicate Steve (aka Steve Marion), who's been covered repeatedly in our blog and magazine, and played our B.E.A.F. 2011 -- he'll drop new album "Positive Force" on July 10th. In support of this new effort, the multi-instrumentalist will be touring the US (plus one stop at UK End of the Road Festival) through August. Included are dates alongside Yeasayer and tUnE-yArDs, plus a 4-day installation across New York.

People Get Ready, a sort of combo dance group and indie act, is a bit of an all-star cast with a fantastic live show and it's bound to explode soon. Frontman Steve Reker toured as a dancer/guitarist with David Byrne and drummer Luke Fasano is formerly of Yeasayer. Tons of hook and layered melodies mark this indie act, that will be releasing debut later this year, so be on the look out. - Corinne Bagish

Delicate Steve announce "Positive Force" album + play SXSW

Delicate Steve isn’t your typical band. The beat of their music has the power to force you to sing along, despite the lack of words. The way Steve plays his guitar is melodic in nature, providing a faux-voice track for his feel-good, exotic sounding tracks. “Afria Talks to You” is Delicate Steve’s latest tune (stream it here), from the sophomore album "Positive Force" that’s coming out May 15. His previous CD, "Wondervisions" was acknowledged by the media and the blogs (Deli included) for its unique qualities. After touring lots last year, Steve and his band will head down to perform their new songs at SXSW ’12 - The Deli booked them last year down in Asutin. - Christine Cauthen
