denitia and sene

denitia and sene to release 'love and noir' LP at Mercury Lounge on 11/18

Back in 2013, when they released their his and hers LP, denitia and sene was one of The Deli's most written about artists (heck, we even booked them at our 2013 electronic CMJ stage!). We simply couldn't get enough of the singer/producer pair's obscure yet very poiginant electro-RnB. Three years later, the pair is back with a new album titled love and noir, and judging from the two singles, "favourite." and "Open Wide,"  the record should be as richly textured and spell-binding as the group's first full length. "Open Wide" has a glitchy, industrial beat with distorted synth glissandos and robotic backup vocals that clash perfectly with denitia's pristine vocals. With "Favourite," on the other hand, less is truly more. Denitia's vocals and lovesick lyrics carry the track, occasionally aided by a horn blast and modulated synths. It's a song of few elements, sure, but each is crafted, curated and utilised to its fullest extent. Catch the duo live at Mercury Lounge on 11/18 for their release party. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber

Denitia and Sene release video for "Divided"

denitia and sene. - besides being an editor's nightmare, with their lower case name and period at the end of it - were probably the best live act at our 2013 CMJ Marathon electronic showcase at The Delancey. The Brooklyn duo plays music that - if hard pressed - we would label as "trip'n'b," with many similarities to Tricky's early records without the rap component or the British artist's insane 'bakedness'. They just unveiled this dark video for single "Divided," a single that was produced by twin brother producers Christian Rich (Pharrell Williams/N.E.R.D, Pusha T, Lupe Fiasco) as part of a Red Bull Sound Select mentor collaboration.

Weekly Feature: Denitia and Sene's dream soul

There’s something to be said about a newborn band that already has their own, unique sound. Smooth, soulful and dreamy at once, denitia and sene. merge genres to create their own penthouse lounge style music. Self-described as “film noir for audiophiles,” they are both mellow and dramatic, creating that perfect “rainy day” feel. Tracks like 'Again (New Ride)' could easily be featured in a modern day romance flick, while 'Casanova' is almost danceable. Going back to the slow and sensual R&B sounds of the 1990s, d&s play with nostalgia both through their sound and their lyrics, which makes them dangerously charming. - LINKS: Paul Jordan Talbot interview with denitia and sene.

NYC Artists on the rise: denitia and sene. plays SOB on 06.09

For the latest generation of soulsters, artists like the Weeknd and Drake, darkness comes naturally. denitia and sene. (spelled all lower caps and with a period - which makes our inner editor angry) also see the shadows behind the lights of love and sex. For their Facebook featured track, the haunting 'breathe.dream.scream,' singer Sene takes us through his troubled thoughts in and out of evening and morning spent with his lady. Good times are here, but anxieties have taken over. It's a soul jam with serious trouble lurking behind, and will pull you in with each thumping heartbeat. Take a listen and catch their set live at S.O.B.'s this Saturday, June 9th. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best Mellow songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
