Stream: FIDLAR "Awkward"

Rambunctious garage quartet FIDLAR continue to enjoy their banner year by releasing new single "Awkward", an entirely new song to surface since the release of their self-titled debut earlier this year. The song has less of the sloppy, flighty abandon of the aforementioned and takes a more pure-pop songwriting approach, but it's not that far off from what we expect from FIDLAR: Zac Carper continues to highlight a self-deprecating personality with an infectiously catchy chorus, not to mention that it also strikes with a crunchy power chord that's gritty as it is melodic. Also, is there a hint of Moog synthesizer in the chorus (The Rentals, anyone?) In short, not much has changed for these guys and all the better for it. "Awkward" will comprise one side of a tour-only, split 7" with touring mates The Orwells.

FIDLAR releases new track off debut LP + plays The Echo 10.26 w/ The Shrine

Hell yeah! - after a couple years on the LA punk scene, garnering a crowd of followers abroad for being one of those oh-so-satisfactory bands that'll sing (=bark) all the stories you want to hear, silly girls, junk food, drugs, beer, more drugs, piss-drunk antics and more straight-up sillies, FIDLAR will be releasing on January 22nd a first self-titled LP, via Mom&Pop records. Anyone unaware of the band could honestly  just read through their song titles and gather what the deal is, i.e some fun-loving r&r, the kind that exists solely to soundtrack reckless exploits, rabid moshpits and messy house parties, not even half pretending to be anything BUT unserious. To preview the album, they debuted a couple of days ago 'White On White', second single off FIDLAR, skuzzed-out treat that'll be joined on the record by tracks like 'Blackout Stout', 'Wake Bake Skate', as well as 'Cheap Beer' (I DRINK CHEAP BEER SO WHAT FUCK YOU, that one, yes), which they released just over a month ago. A lot to look forward to. And if that's not enough, FIDLAR's now off on tour and will be playing The Echo with The Shrine on October 26th!

FIDLAR

They say that punk bands are in their prime when they're still young, crass, and defiantly apathetic. So it makes sense that  FIDLAR isn't really preoccupied at the moment with tax deductions or even college for that matter - their vicious garage anthems are all about existing in the now, being politically incorrect with a purpose and, you know, having some unabashed fun on a Friday night. ALLAH-LAS

Smoky garage rock is usually associated with San Francisco, greatly due to the communal kinship and prolific work ethic of bands such as the Fresh & Onlys, Sick Alps, and Thee Oh Sees. But go a little further south and you’ll discover the skuzzy, sun dappled sounds of Allah Las. Sculpted and retro-fitted from the perennial Nuggets compilation, the quartet does occasionally touch base with their sixties forbearers, but their delectable fuzzy nuggets invoke a cool, phlegmatic vibe that’s very much attuned with their home city.

VANAPRASTA

Vanaprasta knows exactly how to channel Los Angeles' buzz into their music, which is as surprising as a walk in the city itself. Combining psychedelia and rock n’ roll, all five of the band members craft pieces of an intricate puzzle for the listener to put together.
