Fletcher C. Johnson

Hector's Pets and Fletcher C. Johnson take Union Pool back to simpler times on 6/1

There's nothing like some good ol' nostalgia — even if most of us weren't around for the music that largely inspires NYC area bands Fletcher C. Johnson and Hector's Pets (pictured). the former takes cues from rock-pop bands of yesteryear, inundating listeners with prominent, simple guitars and airy vocals to match. Hector's Pets, too, carry a vintage sound, albeit one that is faster and harsher.  Quick guitar riffs, driving drums and hard lead vocals supplanted with cooing back ups will be sure to get feet tapping. See them both at Union Pool tomorrow night (05.21).

Seen live at Baby's All Right: Fletcher C. Johnson

We were at Baby's All Right on 5/17/14 to check out a few interesting local artists. Opening act Juniper Rising started the night out with garage alt country, featuring a pedal steal player and twangy female vocal harmonies.  Up next, Bad Girlfriend, an all girl group with great fashion sense, fit the night of garage rock with style. The main treat of the night however, were New York City darlings Fletcher C. Johnson.  These boys filled the venue with their brand of jingle-jangle surf-rock, making it hard for the members of the audience not to bounce along to their tunes.  Frontman Johnson’s stage banter and lighthearted stage presence makes the downtime in-between songs as enjoyable as the group’s tunes, which are filled with fun references to the pop of the 60s that are perfect for the upcoming summer season.  Their songs include catchy melodies, clever lyrical content and dance inducing energy.  Their latest record “Salutations” is out on Burger Records. The band will be playing live again at the Bushwick Block Party on Troutman st at the Jefferson L train stop on Sunday June 1st. - by Jessica Louise Dye. More photos from Jonathon Bernstein can be found here.

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best Psych Rock songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!

Fletcher C. Johnson releases video for 'Messin' Up My Mind'

Brooklyn's Fletcher C. Johnson is technically one man and a band all at the same time;  Fletcher C. Johnson is both the name of a trio and the lead singer of said trio. In their/his newest music video for “Messin’ Up My Mind,” cardboard aliens plus ticked off beehived back up singers make for a hilariously DIY experience. This mega catchy retro-tinged rock single was originally released in April as the A-side of the band's 7".  If you aren’t listening for the infectious tunes, be sure to watch for the healthy dose of absurd, pizza-throwing humor -- not surprising at all from a band that describes their sound as, "A guy making trumpet noises with his mouth.” - Corinne Bagish

Fletcher C. Johnson's new single 'Messin' with My Mind'

Since his last EP, filled with holiday-themed cake throwing and wailing guitar solos from behind the driver's seat, it's been two whole years since Brooklyn based psych-folkster Fletcher C. Johnson's had a release.

Thankfully, the psycho-scorched jangle of 'Messin' with My Mind' has just been released to 7", crafted especially for all your messy road trip fantasies. The pleasantly twangy guitars are ready-made for sun worshipping, while Johnson's vocals fill a nice space between the folksiness of Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold and the brassy energy of Primus' Les Claypool.

No matter what kind of dust you've got kicking around in your head, you'll always find something new to put in it with Fletcher C. Johnson. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
