Frances Quinlan Opening for Lou Barlow at JB’s Sept. 10

When Hop Along’s Frances Quinlan received a text from Johnny Brenda’s booker, Barrett Lindgren, about opening this evening for Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Folk Implosion), she had just boarded a plane after trading tickets with her brother, Mark, who happened to be seated next to Barlow. “Such is life I suppose,” Frances texted. “Confirm I must.” The world is a small place, and though she missed her opportunity to spend a whole trip next to the legendary rocker, she is ready to share a greater experience with him tonight on and hopefully off stage. You’ll also have the opportunity as well so don’t miss out. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $15, 21+ (Flier by Perry Shall) - Q.D. Tran

Weekend Warrior, September 4 - 7

Ok, so we admittedly were one the harshest critics of Made in America last year because of their unbelievable exclusion of talented homegrown Philly acts. Well, it seems that they are working on making it up to our city for the error of their ways with what might be the most local acts ever invited to the two-day festival.  Saturday is without a doubt when the Jay-Z-curated event brings out its heavy artillery with national and local names. If you want to find where your Philly peeps at, hanging at the Skate Stage will certainly be the place to see some familiar faces with Creepoid, Hop Along, Waxahatchee, Strand of Oaks, and Ground Up doing us proud. Meek Mill will also have the pleasure of sharing the Rocky Stage with heavy hitters Beyoncé, Modest Mouse, and De La Soul. On Sunday, you’ll find the lone Philly act Marian Hill bringing its sweet beats and alluring vocals to the Skate Stage. Ex-patriot Santigold is always a highlight of any bill that she appears on, and it’s certainly been way too long since we’ve heard anything from her. (Fingers crossed for a new album in works.) Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend, and sneak in some good drugs and drinks so you don’t have to consume any crappy, overpriced Budweiser - cheers! Made in America, Ben Franklin Parkway, 1pm, $150 (Sold Out), All Ages - Q.D. Tran

WXPN's XPoNential Fest w/Son Little, Hop Along, Vita and the Woolfe & More at Wiggins Park/Susquehanna Bank Center July 25

It's definitely festival season, and WXPN's XPoNential Fest will be kickin' it across the bridge in Camden at Wiggins Park. You'll find some of our beloved locals holding things down in the early part of the day for XPN's national touring favorites. Starting things off at the Marina Stage in the baking sun of noon will be the powerful, soulful voice of Jennifer Pague with her group Vita and the Woolf. You might have caught Frances Quinlan performing new material last night at OK FEST, but the indie darling will be in full-band mode with her merry men of Hop Along at the River Stage. And the last Philly native to perform for the day will be son of a preacher man and Anti- artist Aaron Livingston, a.k.a. Son Little. However, you'll have plenty to keep you around through the evening with St. Vincent, My Morning Jacket, Lord Huron and more on the bill. Wiggins Park/Susquehanna Bank Center (Camden), 2 Riverside Dr./One Market, 12pm, $30 (XPN Members)/$60 (Public) + $25 (St. Vincent/MMJ for those w/o a 3-day pass), All Ages - H.M. Kauffman
