Josh Jones

New Track: "Be Yourself" - Josh Jones

A somber, stepping, acoustic strum paints the grayness in Josh Jones's  (ex-Univox) new song “Be Yourself”. While strings and keys offer candlelight to the dim details, vocal harmony demonstrates a determination in the face of despair. The song recognizes its spare, absorbing isolation; a loner finding direction.

Josh Jones Opening for Warehouse & Scott Yoder at Eris Temple Arts June 13

Performing at Eris Temple Arts this evening, former Univox frontman Josh Jones finds a manner to deliver serious yet danceable songs on his solo album It’s a Terrible World. Capturing a heart-beating sense of percussion and keys that absorbs listeners in a persistent sense of movement and balance with those moving parts and the darker undertones that the lyrics present, there’s an interesting dynamic at play - the outward flow of the instrumentation and the inward reflection that the lyrics suggest. Joining in on this Spazz Presents showcase are hosts Radio Eris. The noir folk of Seattle’s Scott Yoder (formerly of The Pharmacy), whom released an EP Sisters Under the Mink this past spring, and the odd yet measured art-punk of Atlanta’s Warehouse solidify a lineup that pulls you in multiple directions. Eris Temple Arts, 602 S. 52nd St., 8pm, $5-$10, All Ages - Michael Colavita

New Music Video: "Go Crazy" - Josh Jones

Below is a new music video from former Univox frontman Josh Jones for his latest single "Go Crazy." It was also directed by Jones, who has provided a bit of a gory visual in time for Halloween to accompany his heartbroken track. Squeamish folks might want let their breakfast or lunch settle first.

Josh Jones Opening for Jimmy Whispers at PhilaMOCA June 4

Univox's Josh Jones will be performing his new solo material tonight at PhilaMOCA opening for Chicago lo-fi crooner Jimmy Whispers. For those out there wondering when you'll be hearing from Univox again, it doesn't sound like any time soon or at all so this evening will be your best opportunity to hear Jones' captivating baritone vocals. When I ran into him at our last Deli-sponsored event with Night Panther, Pattern is Movement and Commonwealth Choir, Jones indicated that the band is done. Below is a wrestling-themed promotional video for tonight's main event, starring Univox drummer Kent Boersma. Also battling on the bill this evening will be garage-psych outfit Time Hitler and the Assholes From Space. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $7 - $10 Donation, All Ages - Q.D. Tran
