Language unveil Plymouth EP, play release show at Baby's All Right on 5/16

After honing their skills via two self-released EPs, Brooklyn trio Language is set to release their new EP Plymouth via Good Eye Records on May 18th. The five tracks show the band developing a hybrid sound falling in a space between prog and industrial. “Where To” is a short burst, under minute and a half instrumental displaying the band's impressive chops. Angular rhythms and sharp cuts emerge from precise placement of drums, bass and guitar . “Game Piece” ramps up the tempo adding shouted punk style vocals over the shifting progression underneath. Title track “Plymouth” emerges out of jagged guitar textures that lead to a softer lyrical center followed by a Zappa-esque extended psyched-out coda. “Into and Out Of” (streaming below) pairs emergency broadcast signals with triple-time high-hat flutters before the full band throttle explodes into a throbbing onslaught. Final track “Square Winds” bring vocals back over an equally hyperactive rhythmic undercurrent. The band will play their release show at Baby's All Right on 5/16 with label mates Russian Baths, plus Grooms and Mezzanine Swimmers. - Dave Cromwell

A band to check out: Language plays Pine Box and Alphaville on December 17-22

If you have ever wandered how The Feelies would have sounded if they played their instruments like Fugazi (you obviously haven't, have you?) you'll find the answer in 'Pre-Campaign,' a pretty darn tense post punk gem by Brooklyn's Language. The track opens their latest EP 'Junket,' which proceeds along post-punk/post-hardcore coordinates, showcasing an invetive attitude sprinkled with math tendencies. Check out second track 'Lex' below, and - if you are in the mood for some sublime, loud noise, don't miss them live at either Pine Box Rock Shop on December 17th or at Alphaville on the 22nd.

Big Bliss plays Sunnyvale on 7.15 + tours with Language in August

Voted by The Deli as one of the Best NYC Indie/Post-Punk bands of 2015 earlier this year, Big Bliss consists of brothers of Cory (drums, Party of Helicopters) and Tim Race (guitar/vocals, Russenorsk/Narrow & the Brights) along with bassist Wallace May (Young Tides). Their newest single “Old Guard” (streaming below) was just released on the Unblinking Ear Records' Office Supplies series, and will be also included in their upcoming EP, out in August. Following in the footsteps of their previous material, “Old Guard” elicits the gloomy and disturbed nature of British post-punk acts like The Cure and Joy Division. Race's somewhat anxious, restless delivery provides the ideal companion for the tense and pressing instrumentation. Big Bliss’ debut EP Keep Near will be released on August 12th via Exit Stencil Records. They will be playing Sunnyvale on July 15th before heading out on a tour in support of the EP in August with fellow Brooklyn natives Language - also a band worth checking out for those who miss the days of post punk, they just released a new cassette EP titled 'Junket.' You can see language live at Shea Stadium on August 7th- John Honan
