Mon Khmer

Mon Khmer returns to Baby's All Right tonight (01.28)

Brooklyn based band Mon Khmer made their appearance in the NYC music circuit back in the late aughts with an electronically infused, guitar-laden sound that they carefully developed throughout their two beautifully textural EPs. It’s been four years since they’ve released any new material but they surface every few months to play shows around the city, including one of the last shows at Glasslands Gallery - they are truly talented musicians. If catching them live is on your bucket list then don’t forget to keep an eye on their Facebook page, where they post information on upcoming shows, and definitely don’t forget to see them tonight at Baby’s All Right. - Adriana S Ballester

Booked at CMJ: Bowmont unveils video for Hovering + plays Glasslands on 11.13

Bowmont ended up on our CMJ 2014 Electronic Stage at Pianos at the last minute, and we couldn't have been happier to have them, since their put on a great show. The band has coined a very personal, moody brand of pop that could be defined impressionistic, if not pointillistic: it's as if their songs emerged from silence like a sonic mosaic created by the combination of many tiny fragments of sound. The quartet just unveiled this video for their song "Hovering," featuring Shilpa Ray (who also played at Pianos that night on our Indie Stage). Check it out below and don't miss them when they play live at (soon to be closing) Glasslands on 11.13 with like minded Brooklynites Mon Khmer. -  Photo by Fabrizio Del Rincon

Mon Khmer releases "Dreamers" EP + plays with Alt-J on 08.07 at Glasslands

It's summer, and that means it's time to get off your ass and do some traveling or - if you can't afford it - watch videos about it. Mon Khmer's latest video for new single 'Dreamers' will fly you over to Meghalaya in North East India, where you'll be led around by a wise little girl over sharp cliffs and challenging terrain.

Brooklyn by way of Boston, founding member Hammarsing Kharhmar challenged Brooklyn cinematographer Russell Cramer to represent his roots for the piece, making way for an ambitious visual start to their new recordings. But it's the addition of lead singer Emil Bovbjerg and producer Jeremy Loucas that's really defined the band's new direction. Mon Khmer's latest EP 'Dreamers' contains some of their most decisive tracks yet. Filled with hypnotic synths and jetstream vocals, the record will pass right through your ears to some nostalgic root you usually come across only in Murakami novels. But then, this band is all about nostalgia. Named for a remote language spoken by Kharhmar in his youth, the band similarly captures hidden worlds in their music and throws them onto a global dance template.

Travel to Glasslands on August 7 when they play with Alt-J. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
