People Get Ready

People Get Ready announces new album "Physiques" + plays River to River on 06.19

Featured on the cover of The Deli's NYC issue #33 (winter 2013), People Get Ready is still one of the best kept secret of the NYC scene (their live shows are particularly entertaining). Hopefully the new album "Physiques," scheduled to be released on June 24 on The National's label Brassland, will undisclose their edgy and theatrical art pop to the masses. The preview titletrack is an inventive mid tempo that showcases the band's signature quirky but heartfelt melodies, and their penchant for angular arrangements that somehow sound extremely organic. Don't miss their next live shows: River to River Fest on June 19 and Album Release Party at Rough Trade on June 24.

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!

Crossing Brooklyn Ferry docks new fans for Brooklyn indie bands - including Clare & The Reasons and People Get Ready

For the second year of the Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival, curated by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National, the focus was a wider sample of indie music and short film. The small three-day fest at BAM included artists selected by and connected to the brothers, like their own house show, in a beaux-arts palace.

The bands, mostly from Brooklyn, were an eclectic mix--electro, folk, noise rock and funk met classical and jazz. The Roots, Solange and TV on the Radio headlined. Several up-and- coming artists played the BAM café, serving as the second stage. Acts often covered by The Deli filled the bill, including Clare & The Reasons (on our cover a few years ago, check out a recent video here), People Get Ready (on the cover of our latest NYC issue), Here We Go Magic, Doe Paoro, Eddi Front, Exitmusic, Porcelain Raft, Olga Bell and many others. - Bianca Seidman

People Get Ready Announce Tour Dates With Deerhoof This Spring (And Play Our Winter Issue Launch Party at Mercury Lounge 2.08)

A Deli favorite (and on the cover of our current issue), Brooklyn indie pop quartet People Get Ready has announced a tour dates this April with Deerhoof.  Starting in Chicago, the bands will be playing shows in the northern states, reaching over to Michigan and making their way back east, with their last show in Philly. Unfortunately none of the shows are in NYC, but lucky for us People Get Ready will be playing next week (2.08) at our winter issue launch party at Mercury Lounge. - Lucy Sherman

People Get Ready release video for "Windy Cindy"

We know, lately we covered these guys a little too often, but they always give us a good reason for some extra content - I guess you should follow their example if you want to be featured on this blog! Check out People Get Ready's new video for "Windy Cindy." Full length out in January.

CD release party no to be missed: People Get Ready at Glasslands, 10.27

We covered People Get Ready so much in the last few months that we have really run out of words to describe how good they are - see past coverage here. Don't mis their CD release party at Glasslands on October 27. Album out on legendary NYC label Brassland - run by members of The National.
