Power Animal

New Track: "3 Months And A Week" (Feat. Eskimeaux) - Power Animal

It's been a moment, but we are happy to hear that Power Animal, a.k.a. Keith Hampson, has a rad new single called "3 Months And A Week," which premiered at Stereogum. It features former Philly native Gabrielle Smith, a.k.a Eskimeaux, whom Hampson had a challenging personal yet fruitful musical relationship with. "I think, in general, both of us were much more capable of expressing our feelings in the form of songs than face-to-face, so we would hang out together and then go home and send each other songs. In a way we had an ongoing, passive dialogue that was sometimes romantic and sometimes really hurtful to each other." His latest track also inspired Eskimeaux to write and record the song, "Broken Necks," off her 2015 breakout album O.K. (Double Double Whammy), as a response. "3 Months And A Week" will appear on Power Animal's upcoming album Good Wind Pt. 1, due out hopefully later this year.

Power Animal Opening for Jeffrey Lewis + Los Bolts at Safety Meeting Oct. 3

Listening to Power Animal, a.k.a. Keith Hampson, is an exploratory sojourn of sound. There’s so much going on as multiple layers intermingle, and yet that densely stacked byproduct isn’t confusing or heavy because the pieces pull in a united direction. It’s an airy, meditative space that you are willing to escape into, dynamically lifting one’s headspace. Tonight at Safety Meeting, this Spazz Presents show also includes the blissful blasts of zany carnival troupe OhBree joining in on the fun, while the youthful folk-punk of Asbury Park’s Teenage Halloween also help to set to the table for the legendary Joe Jack Talcum and the delightfully quirky adventure of Jeffrey Lewis + Los Bolts. Safety Meeting, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more information.), 7pm, $5-$10, All Ages - Michael Colavita

New Video: "Gymnopedie 1.2" (Live) - Lushlife and Friends (Feat. Power Animal & Eric Slick)

While we wait with great anticipation for Lushlife's follow-up to 2012's Plateau Vision, Raj Haldar has teamed up with Deli favorites Keith Hampson (Power Animal) and Eric Slick (Dr. Dog, Lithuania) to re-record/reimagine "Gymnopedie 1.2." The track was originally a nod to French composer and pianist Erik Satie's "Gymnopedie No. 1," which Haldar obsessed over during his formative years in high school. The intimate at-home acoustic performance was directed by Peter English and edited by Larry DeMark.

Power Animal Opening for Porches & Frankie Cosmos at PhilaMOCA May 27

It's no secret that we're fans of the intoxicatingly mesmerizing sounds of Power Animal, a.k.a. Keith Hampson. After all, he is one of the rare artists that that we've asked to perform at our annual anniversary bash multiple times. Though his musical output in the last few years hasn't kept up with our demands for more tunes, it's always a treat to hear what Hampson has been up to lately, locked away in his makeshift sound lab. And this evening, Power Animal will be opening for The Deli NYC most recent Artist of the Year, Porches (you can find them on the cover of our latest print issue, which is also available online HERE), and blogosphere darlings Frankie Cosmos at PhilaMOCA. It's been sold out for a while now so kudos to our readers who know what's up and have grabbed their tix already. We're looking forward to sharing a rad evening of music with you!
