New Track: "Get Hurt" - Purples

We've been watching/hearing Purples work on their sound for a while now, ever since the demise of beloved indie-rock outfit The Teeth. As of late, with the addition of Mike Quinn (And The Moneynotes), it seems that they are finding their pocket and moving forward in the direction of a band that we always knew they could be again. Below is their latest journey into the recording studio with Craig Hendrix of Agave Studios at the helm, called "Get Hurt." Purples also recently announced that they've been added to The Districts' headlining bill on Friday, November 6 at the E Factory with Lady Lamb.

New Track: "It's a Drag" - Purples

The weekend’s conclusion can be a bummer. However, Purples’s latest release “It’s a Drag” with a blend of rumbling bass, snappy percussion and spirited vocals helps to break loose from the doldrums. By the time that gnarly guitar inferno of a solo is ablaze, the tides have turned. You can catch the band on a bill with Matthew Friedberger on Thursday, October 8 at Boot & Saddle.

When Lightninging Comes at Ortlieb's July 22

The brooding, impending storm of sound known as Lightninging is one that gradually develops, marinating in subtle layers of psychedelic tones that service as warnings for when the rains are going to come. Tonight, that downpour occurs at Ortlieb’s, bringing with it forays of melodic guitar runs, while engulfing you in an excursion which naturally pushes further as the quintet digs down into a jammed-out sweet spot that hits a spot on the musical map which they desire. The experimental rock of local four-piece Purples combines harmonious vocals, groove-thumping backend, and guitar heat with cinematic scene-shaping sonic twists. The genre-spanning, NYC-residing Gladshot offers joyfully smooth, casual, bouncing tunes that give off a folky-funky, lyrically inquisitive vibe. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Third St., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Love is Blind" - Purples

With the recent addition of Mike Quinn (ex-And The Moneynotes), the indie-rock trio of Purples has evolved into a quartet. Their new single “Love is Blind” takes a creepy first step, orchestrated via keys and a thumping bass line, which then transitions into a strolling psych rocker. Vocal harmonies, grounding percussion, tight guitar licks and those persistent keys and bass produce a song that’s airy with an edge. Catch the band when they return home on Wednesday, July 22 at Ortlieb’s with Lightninging and Gladshot!

New Music Video: "Nancy (Be Good)" - Purples

Purples have released a reworked take on the title track from their debut album Nancy, transforming the solemn sounding original into a rocker. The accompanying music video is quite fitting, given the song’s revitalized sense of motion. The footage provides a scenic view as you coast along a railway. The band performs next in Philly on Wednesday, July 22 at Ortlieb's alongside Lightninging and Gladshot.
