The Revolution returns on 09.21 with Ryan Egan, Niya Levon and Liberation Era

The performance series The Revolution will hold their Vol. 42 show on Saturday, September 21 at 10:00 pm. This show will highlight three artists from Brooklyn and Harlem, including Niya Levon, Liberation Era, and Ryan Egan. The Revolution has a new volume every month, with three artists from three different genres performing at each one. These shows not only connect the music community in Brooklyn and Harlem, but they also present the opportunity to share their own stories while also spreading awareness and positivity.

Niya Levon

A product of a musical family, Niya Levon is influenced by several old school soul artists, including Prince, Luther Vandross, and Lisa Fisher, but also contemporaries like Lady Gaga, Brandy, Justin Timberlake, and Alex Lacamoire. Levon stands out from the crowd with her elegant and fragile voice in single “Sweet Victories,” complementing the light and dainty melody. Levon has worked with several renowned artists, including Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, John Legend, Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, Mark Ronson, and Lauren Hill. In 2015 she introduced Real Entertainment Industries (REI), her own nonprofit talent agency, where she works to find new and unique artists.

Ryan Egan

Singer, producer, and multinstrumentalist Ryan Egan's songs are delicate and smooth, his velvety voice accompanying his rather soft melodies. Egan has released several singles and two EPs, “Postures” and “Fever & Bloom.” Having over 1 million total plays on Spotify, Egan is quickly and seamlessly making a name for himself in the music business.

Liberation Era

Kyle Shedrick and Jean Mahoney are Liberation Era. Inspired by societal injustice, the duo of home grown musicians takes inspiration from R&B, folk and jazz. Their song, “Quiet the Monster,” is an acoustic tune highlighting Shedrick and Mahoney’s smooth and tender vocals effortlessly harmonizing over the single's mellow and quiet melody. They are currently working on their first EP, the “Liberation Era EP.”

Ryan Egan celebrates single release at Elsewhere on 09.28

Self-produced solo artist Ryan Egan has generated a lot of interest with his modern blend of pop and soul. With R&B-inspired arrangements and meditative lyrics, this artist’s eclectic collection showcases a style that's at once edgy and relatable. In his more popular tracks "Tongue of Yours" and "Between the Pages," Egan experiments with minimal electronic percussion and smooth falsetto vocals, creating melodies that move along with pleasant leisure. As a musician who has released two EPs solely from the facilities of his home studio, Egan continues to self-sufficiently head his music career with the upcoming release of a single, “Won’t You Be The One,” out on Friday, September 28. For now, you can check out single "Between the Pages" (streaming below) and catch him live at Brooklyn's Elsewhere on Friday, August 28. - Rebecca Carroll

Ryan Egan plays Rough Trade on 12.13

Catch Ryan Egan at Rough Trade on December 13 with Maybird. The NYC-based indie pop artist dropped his latest single, “Tongue of Yours,” back at the end of September. Egan’s musical strengths – silky, emotive vocals at the forefront of no-frills production that gets out of the way of his voice -- shine throughout the slice of catchy, melodic pop. “Finest Hour” is another cut worth checking out from Egan’s burgeoning oeuvre. The production here is a bit more inventive than on other Egan tracks. Building layers of synths and percussion make this a danceable, joyous burst of indie pop. -juan leon

Ryan Egan's "Hard To Lose" ahead of Berlin NYC show on 06.19

With new single “Easy To Lose,” electro-pop artist Ryan Egan has further sculpted his personal and sophisticated fusion of mellow and dancey tunes. The song follows his self-produced single “Finest Hour” and debut EP "Postures," which introduced us to his signature harmonizing vocal lines on top of entrancing electronic arrangements. The track captures the dark-pop and layered synth elements of his previous releases, while also crystallizing Egan’s melancholic voice and its ability to sustain emotional lyrics. The New York based artist will be playing Berlin NYC on June 19 along with Quiet Luke. - Tafari Lemma
