The Soft Moon will be making a stop in the Bay Area on January 29th at The New Parish and January 31st at Slim's. Local bands Mall Walk and Cold Beat will be the supporting artists for the Oakland show and Male Gaze and DJ Omar Perez will be supporting the San Francisco gig with the Los Angeles based post industrial band, Sextile playing both nights. We love to see local bands earn great support opportunities like this!

The Soft Moon’s synthy, gothic album, Deeper is comprised of tracks that expose listeners to the dark imagery that wallpaper a stunning, manic mind. Deeper isn’t just your average dark, Bahaus-esque sound but replicates the kind of darkness that can only be heard miles from lights and civilization- the blackest of the black nights. With creepy, gorgeous layered beats, Deeper's tracks all have a similar sense of urgency equipped with quick stacatto beats. The haunting, distorted vocals layered with the foggy beats establish an anxious mood that you want to dance to. In a twist of events, Los Angeles' occult punks Sextile were recently hand-picked to tour parts of the West Coast with self-actualized Oakland-turned-Venetian EBM project The Soft Moon, following the dropout of headliner Killing Joke due to health reasons. Taking financial difficulties into account, Sextile launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for touring expenses —  the band has reached almost $1000, nearly 120% of their goal, with 13 more days to go. The support does not come unwarranted, either — since the release of their debut album A Thousand Hands, Sextile have made a name for themselves performing across Los Angeles with darker dance partners like The Electric West, L.A. Drones, and Terminal A. With expanding coverage from shore to shore, their purgatory sounds evoke perfectly the spiritual unrest and emotional agitation that scrapes the back of our thoughts.  

In a recent interview with music blog Heathen Harvest, the band has announced that it will also perform at SXSW this year, and are currently writing new material for upcoming releases. There's heavy VHS nostalgia in Sextile's newest music video for "Visions of You", off their debut album A Thousand Hands. The band worked with Jesse Kelly, a local video editor whose contributions include music videos for Hammered Satin, Whispering Pines, and Alana Amram. The video bombards with heavy tape noise, strobe lights, and color inversions, conveying the rawness of Sextile's homegrown sound. It's definitely 90's Goth Klub material. - Ryan Mo

Felte Records hosts a show tonight at the Non Plus Ultra, with a disparate lineup to welcome the darkest part of the year. Melbourne's new romantic punk Romy (A G E N D E R) shares new music from her eponymous project. With a debut EP around the corner, new shuffler The Tissues wipes Los Angeles again, and upstart occultists Sextile will raise the night — stream their debut album One Thousand Hands below. Brooklyn's Lushes, of the original show lineup, was called to support Kurt Vile before their Europe tour. Label owner Jeff Owens and Lucifersam spin songs at 9. $5 at the door. - Ryan Mo

Sextile's eagerly awaited debut album A Thousand Hands releases tomorrow, but you can still stream it on Line of Best Fit if you can't wait. That said, it's an amazing set of songs that blends post-punk with jarring industrial and abrasive surf punk elements. We first caught a glimpse of these guys late-June with the premiere of "Can't Take It". Signed by local label felte Records, whose international roster also includes Flaamingos, The KVB, and Lushes, Sextile spent the earlier part of their summer supporting Australian dreamgaze Au.Ra for a West Coast tour, giving listeners an early taste of their sonic visions.
