Visual Vices: Souvenir Driver - "Sunsets"

It's pretty decent outside right now, but the feelings Souvenir Driver's latest video for "Sunsets" gives are much more lovely.

A dazed visual entry of a tour diary recounting a day gone awry, "Sunsets" follows the band on an adventurous journey following the breakdown of their video vehicle. The band then have some unexpected encounters at a small town dive bar, where the band actually used real locals and regulars from the location. It's a story of compassion among strangers and offers a bit more beauty we could all definitely use right about now.

See Souvenir Driver perform "Sunsets" and the rest of the songs from their recent, self-titled release tonight at the Fixin' To with Leading Psychics and the Verner Pantons.

Daydream Machine drop new album, tour with Souvenir Driver

We've been asking for new music from shoegazy neo-psych post-punk outfit Daydream Machine for a little while now and after being teased with "Modern Prophecy" back in January, The Show Must Not Go On is finally here.

It technically dropped earlier this month with a video for the album's first track "You Know Who" to go along with it, and a listening party running through the album a few days ago on St. Patrick's Day. Tonight is when the big celebration takes place, since it's the album release show along with the kickoff of their tour with Souvenir Driver.

Daydream Machine aren't the only ones with new tunes, since Souvenir Driver have been hard working in the studio as well. They debuted their new emotive dream pop track "Dive" earlier in March, the first single shared from their upcoming self-titled fourth release, due out April 14. Catch more peeks into what the LP will sound like tonight at the tour kickoff, or at any of their stops while on the road.

Candace is Back with Another Valentine's Day Soundtrack

Last year, goblin pop trio Candace shared a duo of specially covered love songs for the sake of Valentine's Day. They've done it again this year, and even included one of their own original tracks as an extra delight.

While you're getting ready for your big Valentine's date or perhaps just chilling at home demuring the date, Candace's mini playlist is worthy of some proper rotation. Providing their own gazed out bedroom pop versions of "Something's On My Mind" by Karen Dalton and "Do I get So Shy" by Shoes, along with a newer song of theirs called "Great Basin," their V-Day release is honestly one of the best things about today. Here's to hoping it becomes an actual tradition.

You can catch Candace playing on Thursday, February 16 for a Lose Yr Mind sponsored show along with Souvenir Driver and Sinless.

Portland Psych Fest is back and begins tomorrow!

Back for its second year, the Portland Psych Fest has made good with presenting what's finest in the psych realm along the West Coast. This is exactly what we can expect from this weekened's happenings as well.

Starting tomorrow night and running all day Saturday, Portland Psych Fest features 17 artists and 3 DJs from here all the way down to Mexico, with a couple hailing from Idaho and Chicago. Four artists are slated to represent good ol' PDX, with two performing each night of the fest.

The much adored Jacksoon Boone will be taking the stage Friday along with Zozma, whose witchy psych includes trippy elements pulled from Middle Eastern pop.

Hawkeye's lo-fi indie britpop will surely delight fans of Spiritualized, as their influence can be heard throughout Hawkeye's songs. For a band made up of members of Souvenir Driver and Hollow Sidewalks, the influence makes sense and has only been perfected by the members' all around mastery.

Portland psych can't really be discussed without mentioning Cambrian Explosion, who even for being in the scene three years have already solidified their place in it. Internal changes within the band haven't hindered them in any sense musically. They'll be on a few slots before headliners Spindrift and will be helping properly close out an intense weekend.

To view the few lineup and purchase tickets, visit the Portland Psych Fest website. Howler opens up the fest at 7:30pm tomorrow, so make sure you come out early.

Souvenir Driver bring their space pop to the Know tonight

Souvenir Driver have that power to mentally transport you through dream like dimensions, with a sound supported by both a down tempo chill wave and a hardened, reverb heavy nod to alternative pop. Souvenir Driver have only been getting stronger and stronger with each release and with their new album due out soon, excitement is teeming with the possibilities of it being their greatest and most full sounding release yet.

They're playing tonight at the Know with rock duo Leading Psychics and Seattle's Vibragun. Tickets are $7 and music starts around 9pm, so if you've got some energy left after dancing about at the St. Johns Bizarre go check them out!
