TAUK releases album "Homunculus" + tours East Coast

Releasing their full-length album “Homunculus” under the guidance of Grammy-winning producer Robert Carrranza (Mars Volta, Jack Johnson) earlier this year, New York City’s TAUK prepares for a series of showcases in the coming days. The band produces sophisticated instrumental music without apparent effort - it could be described as post rock with heavier jam and funk influences.

Opening track “Dead Signal” (streaming below) evolves from mellotron wind whooshes to dominant guitar riffing over a rock solid bass and drums backbeat. Guitar phrasing and chord progressions echo the great fusion and jamband artists like Allan Holdsworth and The Allman Brothers Band. While keyboard textures throughout the album bring to mind the classic work of Brian Auger with his Oblivion Express. Returning to their home city after an extensive tour through the midwest and southern states (after earlier select opening dates supporting Robert Randolph and the Family Band this summer), the band will play Music Hall of Williamsburg on September 28th with Dopapod and Chromatropic. - Dave Cromwell

Mission South, Dirty Names, and Tauk @ Rock'n'Roll Hotel 9/13

This Friday, make your way over to Rock'n'Roll Hotel for an awesome local line-up featuring headliners Mission South joined by Dirty Names, and NYC's Tauk. Mission South (an outstanding contender in our yearly Best Emerging Artist campaign) is a DC trio of best friends dishing out an alternative indie sound, and are currently on an extended US tour going on now through November. Check out their latest video for "Peaches" below. Maryland rock and rollers Dirty Names will be unveiling new music to the masses on Friday, and rumor has it- if they win this month's Deli poll, they'll release a new song! NYC's experimental rock-fusion Tauk will no doubt lay out some key instrumental tracks from their latest release Homunculus, a record in which Grammy winning producer Robert Carranza was on board.

It all goes down Friday Sept 13 @ Rock'n'Roll Hotel. Doors @ 8 PM

NYC Prog-Rockers Tauk release 'Homunculus' at Sullivan Hall on 04.24

More praise should be given to musicians who can actually play, because the Brooklyn scene - among other things - is a testament to the fact that mastering an instrument ain't easy. Tauk - a band as jazzy as The Deli can go as far as music coverage (we don't cover jazz!) - is equal parts music nerds with prog/post rock tendencies and soulful songwriters. Often compared to established jam bands like Phish and Lotus - but with a feel all their own for deep groove - the quartet has a rare ability to channel emotional melodic leads, and all without a lead singer. With their next LP 'Homunculus' due to be released April 30th, they're set to continue their fast rise. But instead of waiting for the next Peach Fest or Bonnarroo to see the group's funk and freestyle freakouts, check out the quartet before the album's release this Wednesday, April 24th at Sullivan Hall. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)
