Best of NYC poll - JURORS' VOTE: Wet, Big Ups, The Can't Tells

This year 27 NYC "scene experts" (including booking agents from Bowery Presents, Webster Hall, Pianos, Cake Shop etc etc) helped us with our Best of NYC Poll 2013 for Emerging Artists by choosing their 3 favorite up and coming local acts. These jurors are comprised industry people who work with many local bands throughout the year (we'll publish the list soon), and their vote is the most influencial in determining The Deli's Best Emerging Artist of the Year.

Their votes this year produced a list of 60+ artists, which means that - as always - most jurors voted for different bands. But some bands appeared more than once in the "ballots": below we compiled a list of the artists who accumulated more points through the jurors vote only. Kudos to quirky Electro-Soul trio WET (pictured and streaming) for getting the top spot, and to Punk Rockers Big Ups and Indie Poppers The Can't Tells for getting darn close, tied in second place!

After crunching the numbers of all the votes that came in from Jurors, Deli Writers and Readers we'll publish the final results of The Best of NYC 2013 Poll for Emerging Artists - it should just take a couple of days.

Wet announces debut EP + plays CMJ at Bowery and Santos

A few months ago we highlighted electro mellow-core duo Wet, a project that offers a musical recipe reminiscent of the wise, caucasian soul-pop of MS MR, but with an added personal twist consisting in a subtle quirkiness and an intriguing sonic spaciousness. The band in the last few weeks has unveiled a few new songs from the debut EP, which will be relased on October 15, during the CMJ Music Marathon. Check out "Dreams," streaming below, and see them live at Bowery Ballroom on 10.15 or at Santos Party House on 10.17.

Brooklyn Artists on the rise: Wet

Like many of the bands we get to know through the internet, there’s very little known about Brooklyn’s three piece Wet. The band’s just released two head-nodding, weirdly intense odes to ditties and fast-driving pop on their Bandcamp. But the combination of quirky arrangements, soulful female vocals and runaway lyrics here are so distinctly their own, you’re left scratching your head after twisting around to their EP’s catchy opening track ‘U Da Best' (streaming below). Hopefully we’ll get to know this band a bit better as they release more tunes and help fill in the lines for us. For now... these pop nuggets are at least a perfect way to get over the rainy weather. - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

This artist submitted their music for review digitally to The Deli here. We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best Mellow songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
