Yellerkin

Buzz Alert: Yoke Lore (ex Yellerkin) plays LA's The Echo tonight (07.13) + BK Rough Trade on 07.15

Adding to his many creative outlets, Brooklyn artist Adrian Galvin dropped his debut EP Far Shore under his new solo project Yoke Lore on May 6th. The EP bares some resemblance to Galvin's previous work with his band Yellerkin, with some notable departures from it as well. Both groups feature Galvin's distinct, Panda Bear-esque voice, but where Yellerkin's sound could be described as electronic folk-pop, in his solo project Galvin dials down the busy arrangements, acoustic instruments in particular, opting instead for a sparser atmosphere, which allows his sparkling voice to take a more prominent role in the song. After debuting his live show under Yoke Lore at the Northside Fest on June 8th, Galvin will be performing at LA's The Echo tonight (07.13) and then at Brooklyn's Rough Trade on Friday 07.15. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber

Weekly Feature: Yellerkin plays Bowery on 01.16

An unobvious mesh of Adrian Galvin’s folk sensibilities and Luca Buccellati electronic production, Yellerkin’s hybrid sound is incredibly succinct despite drawing inspiration from two polar opposite corners. Cut in the duo’s Bushwick bedrooms, their music is the result of a wholly collaborative process and each track is carefully constructed, often over a lengthy period of time. But even with the synthetic pallet and impressive attention to detail, tracks like 'Solar Laws' and 'Tomboy' boast a real rootsy, fireside feel, rounded out with Adrian’s cabin-in-the-woods vocals. Having put out a self-titled EP earlier this year, the group have quickly followed it up with the release of new single ‘Tools’ and will continue to filter out their music, one track at a time. NYC Artist on the rise: Yellerkin goes camping + plays Northside on 06.14

Originating from upstate NY, and recently relocated to (you guessed it) Brooklyn, Yellerkin is a duo comprised of two childhood friends who've been knowning each other for twenty years (that's always the best way to form a band). Their self-titled debut EP is a true hybrid of new and old sounds and atmoshperes, characterized by very melodious vocals and a predilection for vocal harmonies (if you like simplifications, think about a more Animal Collective-ish version of The Dodos). Their single Solar Laws (streaming) unconventionally blends benjos and a placid falsetto melody with brushed drums playing a frantic swinging bluegrass rhythm. The band was chosen by The Wild Honey Pie for their upcoming episode of their Welcome Camper series, which sounds like an awesome paid vacation for bands with extra filming and recording perks, and will also play the NYC blog's upcoming Northside show at Brooklyn Bowl on June 14.
