A Deli Premiere: "You Lie (IDGAF)" by The Z-Boys

The lead single from Rhode Island’s The Z-Boys’ debut full-length record has now an accompanying music video that is brash and hilarious. “You Lie (IDGAF)” kicks off with a surfy guitar riff that is steely as hell, the rhythm section then locks in to welcome gruff vocals, and it all meshes well in the song’s punchy choruses. The music video is a good-old country American living done by a mannequin you don’t want to tread on; he rips a mean rock solo. The music that the Newport-based collective that is The Z-Boys deploys has placed them in the same stages as known groups like Arrested Development and Fishbone; the group’s upcoming record Elwood is slated for a March 6th release. You can catch the band vibing out and jamming their tunes at Parlor Newport on February 1st. Stream the music video premiering here below for a seriously good jam. - Rene Cobar

01.31: L.A. Witch plays Alex's Bar for last U.S. show before summer

L.A. Witch have a new album coming out this summer, but to conserve their energy for its release, they're playing only two shows in the U.S. beforehand. The second of those two shows will happen at Alex's Bar on January 31st. The trio of Ellie English, Sade Sanchez, and Irita Pai toured Europe a second time last year, but compared to their busy 2018, the past several months have seen L.A. Witch taking their time to brew up a plan to become indomitable in these first years of the new decade. If you wonder what L.A. Witch's 2020 release has in store for you, take a listen to their 2018 EP Octubre, which blends psych rock, smoky blues, and punk into a stark and sultry collection of tracks. We've featured "Haunting" below. - Will Sisskind

01.25: Zig Zags mark record release at The Factory

If you haven't made weekend plans yet, and would like to spend your Saturday evening screaming at the top of your lungs, head to The Factory downtown and check out Zig Zags' record release show. The band put out their LA to Pedro EP last month, but they'll mark it with a performance on a bill with fellow acts The Side Eyes, Nice, and Urns & Argyles. The new EP is a split 7" with Mike Watt and The Secondmen, which includes Zig Zags' take on The Minutemen's "Political Nightmare" along with a new original called "Running Out Of Red". Get ready to spend your weekend with Zig Zags; take a listen to "Running Out Of Red" below. - Will Sisskind

PREMIERE: Sean Carroll carries R&B's torch on "Jealousy"

The wicked, envious crooner is an old character in the book of rhythm and blues, and Sean Carroll is the latest performer to don the costume. New aptly titled single “Jealousy” embodies a lasting R&B tradition, made more contemporary by Carroll’s inclination towards confrontational guitar work, yet with distinct classic influences — still present are a roaming organ groove and a sauntering percussive beat. Fans of more recent R&B outfits like the Black Keys and Jack White will find “Jealousy” accommodatingly vintage and chock full of soul — give it a listen below (preferably with cigarette and whiskey in hand).
