VeVe & Tha Rebels craft mesmerizing gangsta-folk

Veve & Tha Rebels have a penchant for casting entrancing music that manages to be both soft and strong-willed. The self-branded gangsta-folk band blends traditional folk with elements of afro-beat, R&B and hip hop; crafting a sound that pays homage to roots rock but feels decidedly fresh and original. The instrumentals are paired with singer/guitarist VeVe Marley's soulful and hypnotic vocals to produce a potent concotion that's sure to reel you in. Check out "Sistars" off the band's appropriately titled The EP streaming below.-Olivia Sisinni

Rodney Tennor celebretaes release of debut EP 'Smother' at Rough Trade on 12.05

Rodney Tenor's music embodies the same personality as Vince Vaughn's character in the indy-comedy classic "Swingers." His two tracks to date emit that same cool, suave confidence that approaces the line but never crosses over into offputting arrogance. On "Prognosos Hypnosis," Tenor sings sweetly over a funky, Neptunes-inspired beat, displaying the kind of range and poise requisite for any true RnB artist. His lyrics don't embody any sort of deep meaning, but contain vibrant emotional undertones that will resonate with all those who have suddenly found themselves "glowing up," as the kids say these days. Tenor has exhibited all the indicators of talent and potential on his limited offerings to date, and he will hopefully deliver on them with the release of his debut EP 'Smother' on 12/5, whose release will be celebrated that same day at Rough Trade. —Henry Solotaroff-Webber

Buzz Alert: Ex Reyes bring their inspired psych-soul to Union Pool on 12.09

There's a couple of ways that you could try to label NYC-based group Ex Reyes, but maybe the tag that really sums it up is one they've already laid claim to: "future nostalgia" (something similar was said of French band Air's debut album 'Moon Safari'). Ex Reyes, the project of Mikey Hart (Bleachers, The Cranberries, Santigold) is a genre-bending mix of soul-psych--melding Motown vibes, Beach Boys innovation, creamy falsettos and swirling synths to create mid-60's music from the 21st century. The sound is like a sock hop populated by robots, or maybe a reflection of Hart's New York--a city defined by its history, but never separated from the hum of moderniztion. Check out Ex Reyes's Do Something EP here, listen to single 'Bad Timing below, and don't miss the upcoming live show at Union Pool on December 9th. - Olivia Sisinni

The Fur Coats to Host Art Show

Our favorite funky, R&B pop act the Fur Coats recently announced that they are going on a European tour this Spring! We applaud any and everyone that makes it out of the confines of the Pacific Northwest for a period time and we're definitely jealous we can't come with.

Since touring through Europe (or really anywhere, for that matter) is far from cheap, the Fur Coats have taken their part freaky, part dreamy talents to the canvas by creating some original art to help fund the tour. Most of these original pieces will be available for purchase, but prints may be available and have potential to be ordered.

Their art show will be this Wednesday, November 30 at the Turn Turn Turn from 8pm-11pm, but their art will be up for viewing all throughout December. A little DJ party will happen the first two hours to allow for everyone to properly take in the artistic creations, followed by a 45 minute set by the Fur Coats featuring some new songs.

It's 21+ and $6, so come out and help the Fur Coats get their show on the road.
