Perspective, a lovely hand to hold previews new record with explosive single

Nashua, New Hampshire's Perspective, a lovely hand to hold has us excited for the release of its full-length record Lousy on September 27th. "Subject to Change" is the second single off the album and it presents a deceptively super-charged preview heavy on distortion, just right on the dynamics, and fierce as hell. The song's combination of indie and math-rock is doused with grunge fuel, and it sure explodes in the culminating breakdowns. The band is keeping the spirit of rock 'n' roll alive and very well, with sick drum fills and no reservations. Fresh off a performance at ONCE in Somerville expect some autumn dates after the record's release. We are streaming "Subject to Change" for you below. - Rene Cobar

New Matt Kelly EP Available for Streaming & Download

Matt Kelly (formerly of Toy Soldiers) recently dropped a new release, EP 2019. Beginning with a jangly, surf-psych vibe, brightened by synth/keys, the three-song selection is threaded with an infectious, rumbling rhythm. That charming energy pushes the musical motor into high gear, daring you to sit still. Kelly will be performing next in Philly on Wednesday, August 21 at Ortlieb's, as part of the Cherry-Veen-Zine-curated residency. (Photo by Skyler Jenkins)

ESSi drone and disorient on "Pines And Cones," play Alphaville 10.5

New York noise enthusiasts ESSi know their way around a busted Line 6 amplifier, and their newest single “Pines Ands Cones” demonstrates an aptitude for all the bells and hisses of an electric guitar. While the track builds its energy with a grimy driving four on the floor beat, it quickly transitions to a meandering, noodling trance; guitarist and singer Jessica Ackerly delivers an aggressive vocal performance against Rick Daniel’s doomsday percussion, resulting in a final cut that feels like an industrial fugue state. It’s disorienting, dissonant, and rough around the edges (in the best way possible), a hype-worthy teaser of what we can expect on the duo’s forthcoming debut, Vital Creatures, out October 11th on Ramp Local. Stream it below, and catch ESSI at Alphaville on October 5th alongside Upper Wilds, Russian Baths, and Wsabi Fox. -Connor Beckett McInerney

A Case of Mistaken Identity debuts with aggressive record "Doomed to Shred"

Like a triple shot of your favorite espresso, Boston’s A Case of Mistaken Identity is jolting your heart into near tachycardia for the week power through. The band’s brand new record Doomed to Shred promises to provide post-punk revival enthusiasts with a killer dose of noise. The sonic whirlwind of arpeggiating guitars, ruckus drums and saw-toothed basslines peaks with vocals that blend punk speed with nu-metal aggression. Tracks like “Overtones” summon the early days of Rage Against the Machine, while the electric guitar that solos in “Outside” is bound to possess you. The group is an accident waiting to happen, the kind that does not allow you to look away. We are streaming the energetic punk track “Reset” for you below. - Rene Cobar
