Citris shares new single, plays Rubulad on 9/18

Explosive drop-D grunge-metal guitars and thundering drums introduce the new Citris single “Hell Is a Place on Earth” (streaming below). Written and performed by Angelina Torreano (guitar/vocals) and recorded/mixed and mastered by Chris Krasnow (who also contributes drums/bass and guitar) the track is a heavy rumination on personal failings against larger global issues. “Too selfish to die, too right to be happy, too weak to be leaned on. Leave it to me to destroy everything that is good,” the singer laments.  The title line, repeated in the chorus, benefits from harmonized vocal layering, adding a big-studio sheen to that hook, followed by the lyrics “give me your love, then take it away.” A pivotal statement arrives one minute in, when the instruments drop out for the solo vocals declaration “I don't look back in anger.” While that progression cycles through again (with alternate lyrical content), a sophisticated, angular, prog-metal break emerges around the 3rd minute and takes the track to its conclusion. This initial release comes ahead of the upcoming full-length album “Delusions of Glamour.” Having just completed a west coast tour, the band has a number of local shows in the works including 9/18 at Rubulad. - Dave Cromwell

Tanzen "Bottle Kids"

Prog Metal band Tanzen has released a new single called “Bottle Kids”. We love how Teddy effortlessly shifts from a guttural growl to a soaring, clear, clean vocal.

This is the work of Armin Maksumic (Guitar), Demostanis Diakoumakos (Bass), Teddy TanZen (Vocals), and Macklin Suhre (Drums).

You can catch Tanzen at Beat Kitchen on August 10th with Danville, Fools’ Brew, and Contra. (Final Show!).

Head - Power Trio's Rippin' Classic Rock Single "Shudder"

Hard rock trio Head have released their latest single “Shudder”. This classic rock track has a heavy blues influence in the opening riff. This track was produced by Ian Blurton at ProGold studios and has excellent sonic quality. The drums are crisp, the bass rumbles and the guitar shreds. It’s definitely a driving tune that would sound particularly good during these sweaty summer days. Head has been teasing a big announcement is on the horizon so follow their socials and don't miss out on the next hot rock n' roll show from Head. – Kris Gies

The Hands Resist Him

Doom Metal trio The Hands Resist Him released their debut full-length album, Stone Hands, earlier this month. This is the group formed by guitarist/Bassist Eric Mayer, who is now joined by Alex McGady (vocals, guitar), and Ashwinn Torke (drums).

The album’s opening track and lead single, “Collapse”, is a ferocious 11 minute journey through the world of dark and explosive metal. It is also a great introduction to what this trio can do if you are not familiar with their 2018 EP, “Taker"

New Track: "Grasping the Void" - Ecstatic Vision

Ecstatic Vision has a new single, “Grasping the Void,” which is featured on their forthcoming album FOR THE MASSES, due out September 20 via Relapse Records. A chugging bass and bright flurries of flute coexist, creating a weighted, spacey sound. The commanding, tunneling tone of Doug Sabolik's vocals and the fuzz of guitar pulls you further into the vortex. It’s a heavy-psych excursion that you’ll definitely want to explore. Catch the Philly quartet at Underground Arts on Thursday, August 1, with Torche and Wear Your Wounds! (Photo by Gene Smirnov)
