Brother Roy releases piano soul-rock debut LP "Last Man Standing"

With a gruff voice that delivers storybook lyrics in the spirit of James Taylor and heavy piano-based arrangements that smack of Seventies songwriting greats like Elton or Billy, Brother Roy unleashes his debut LP Last Man Standing. Filled with soul and inspired by jazz and classical composers, the tracks on the album flow from driving rockers such as "Heartbreaker" to orchestral crooners such as "Sunshine Lady". Brother Roy has already released a few music videos from Last Man Standing, the latest being a B-movie clipshow set to the head-bopper "Brother Sam." Check it out below and don't miss the record release "extravaganza" at Rockwood Music Hall on December 10th. - Will Sisskind

New A.M. Mills EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

We hope that you had a chance to enjoy your Thanksgiving vacation. And though, like us, you might not be quite ready to start the workweek, we do have some new tunes from A.M. Mills to help ease you back into reality. Led by the gentle croons of Drew Mills (formerly of Blood Feathers), you can now listen to the surprise six-song EP, Window Box, that was recently dropped by the band for your listening pleasure. Let the languid instrumentals wash over you in this AM, and catch Mills and the gang, performing next in Philly, on December 16 at Bourbon & Branch. (Photo by Serge Levin)

Star Club bring a true "Nightmare" to life

Back when the weather and spirits alike were a bit brighter, we shared the first music video from art-wavers Star Club called "Saturday Night," along with a deeper look into the makes of the band and their late summer album Sixth Avenue Motel. We're now pleased to share the latest to come from the album, a music video for the smoothly loungy track "Nightmare."

Monochrome and wonderfully shot, the video for "Nightmare" creatively evokes the horror of how nightmares can feel so much like reality. In it, vocalist/guitarist Nate Lown is somewhat the cool, cornfield narrator hanging back as bassist Marcus Pizotchi is kidnapped and taken to a desolate location where some procedures are performed on him. If you've ever dreamt of some sort of Taken-meets-Saw situation the thought of this actually happening is terrifying, but at least Star Club make it look moody and cool.

See Star Club perform "Nightmare" and other songs off of Sixth Avenue Motel tomorrow headlining the Turn Turn Turn with a debut set from Martha Stax (members of Star Club, Rare Diagram, Ancient Elk and more), Wave Action and Oort. Also, send some birthday love to Pizotchi.

Haunting new dream folk project Panteon drops video for "White Jaguar"

Panteon (aka Yvonne Ambree) writes soft, haunting indie folk tunes that  linger long after the music stops. Her new EP, Travel Log 1, (out January 19th) documents her world travels through music. In anticipation of the release, the Brooklyn-based artist has dropped a video for single "White Jaguar." The video showcases dream-like visuals that compliment the haziness of Panteon's music, and keeping in theme with the EP, the song was developed after a visit to Columbia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta--offering an impressionistic view of the indigenous KOGI peoples. Stream White Jaguar below, and check out Panteon at Rockwood Music Hall 1/28.-Olivia Sisinni

New Gorgeous Porch LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Baby’s First Strawberry is the latest full-length album from Gorgeous Porch, a.k.a. Chris Wood (Grimace Federation, Orbit to Leslie), and boy, does it sure taste sweet! Enchanting, ethereal vocals glide over the groove-generating combination of keys, bass and percussion. Cultivating a cruising sense of calm, within a slightly space-age discovery meets devotional dance floor vibe, there’s a magnetism to these jams. Step inside the cosmic cathedral, and escape all your worries in these trying times.
