New Small Circle LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Cyclical, the debut album from Small Circle, is officially out today via Flower Girl Records. Delicate but driven instrumentation rolls forward as the soft strength of intersplicing vocals serve as a fuse-sparking catalyst. Matching intimate, harmony-laced songwriting with compact coasting grooves, the songs wash over in bright emotive flourishes. Quick, concise, Polaroid-style songs leave an imprint that is hard to discard.

New Track: "Making It Right" - Sports

We already knew that Ohio's Sports had recongregated in Philly, with members Catherine Dwyer and Carmen Perry spawning wonderful side projects in Spring Onion and Addie Pray. Well, the quartet just announced that it will be releasing a new 7" split with San Francisco's Plush. Check out its lead single, "Making It Right," which premiered this morning over at NPR! And keep a lookout for the its arrival on October 20 via Father/Daughter Records.

New Track: "Fish Fry" - Slaughter Beach, Dog

“Fish Fry” serves as the latest sampling from Slaughter Beach, Dog’s forthcoming album Birdie, which is set for release on October 27 via Lame-O Records/Big Scary Monsters. Wandering through the evening alone, while exploring the spectrum of one's emotional depths, what begins at a steady walking pace, gradually gains backend tempo. Finding a melodic middle-ground between the frustration that drives you to pull your hair out and moving on, the song’s persistent pain remains. Slaughter Beach, Dog will be performing as part of the Philly Music & Arts Fest on Saturday, September 23 at World Café Live.

New Ruby The Hatchet Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Ruby The Hatchet recently dropped an enchanting, psych-prog pill, entitled Planetary Space Child (Tee Pee Records). Rumbling and ripping through the galaxy at optimum speed, the album ventures into the darkness, maintaining a steadying, tranquil state. The band will be landing at Johnny Brenda’s this Saturday, September 9, supported by Heavy Temple and Meddlesome Meddlesome Meddlesome Bells.

Yaeji drops "Last Breath" with parody makeup tutorial vid

NYC and Seoul-based Yaeji’s tracks have been percolating on the house scene throughout 2017 (Yaeji’s killer rework of “Passionfruit” is exhibit A). Her latest single, a breathy and breathless deep house banger, sees the DJ/producer threatening a real breakthrough. Released by the LA/NYC music label GODMODE (who’ve been consistently dropping fire Yaeji tracks), “Last Breath” is a sonically fascinating haze-collage of Yaeji’s icy, wispy vocals merged with stylish, soulful synth and percussion touches. It all coheres beautifully. The vaguely tribal percussion really does the trick. Icing on the cake is the make-up tutorial video accompanying “Last Breath,” which reveals a sneakily brilliant media/self-awareness. Yaeji is no joke. -juan leon
