Keeps Contributes to Benefit Compilation Album to Fund the ACLU

Nothing produces high quality music quite like activism. Nashville psych rockers, Keeps, contributed to a compilation album released by Knoxville based label, Gezellig Records, from which all proceeds go to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union. Its roster contains a wide variety of artists, including indie favorites like Surfer Blood, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Mount Eerie, all coming together in support of an increasingly relevant and important organization. You can download the album on bandcamp or buy it straight from the Gezellig Records site and feel really good about it. - Andrew Strader

New Track: "Comfort Chain" - Instupendo

Instupendo, a.k.a. Aidan Peterson, carries a tune that feels well-handled but open at the seams, displaying a fine attention to detail that produces a roving vignette over a shifting sonic landscape. He recently shared "Comfort Chain," a track that offers a moment to pause and reflect in a way that feels soothing rather than drowsy. Peterson is working on an EP that’s set to release this spring, but in the meantime, you can catch him tomorrow night at Kung Fu Necktie, where he’ll be performing with Bucolic, Dizzyride, and Lokomoko.

Weekend Warrior, January 20 - 22

Grey clouds hang overhead; it’s only a matter of time before the skies open up. However, Johnny Brenda’s will be offering shelter from the storm this evening. Ceramic Animal enacts loose, affecting psych-pop - the type that gently seeps into your mind with the casual crash of surf-rock-inspired rhythmic sways, but is fully prepared to attack at opportune moments, demonstrating the force of the instrumental tides. Meanwhile, step into the heady blues-treading vortex of The Mysteries, who will be potentially unveiling material from their forthcoming release, New Age Psychedelic Experiment. With boogie-flavored infectious tones that swiftly transition toward tinges of psych rock, the trio of Satellite Hearts kick off the proceedings. - Michael Colavita
