Big Eyes release new single "Behind Your Eyes" & play Alphaville on 8.16

Somewhat contrary to the spirit of her style of choice (pop punk), 28-year-old Kait Eldridge embraces maturity and self-assurance on Big Eyes’ latest single “Behind Your Eyes.” Eldridge started the band seven years ago, and since then has developed a clear writing style that allows her relatable and level headed personality to shine through. “Behind Your Eyes” is about being able to see through a loved one’s tough exterior and knowing when they are hurting due to a strong emotional connection. In the single, the four-piece blends the catchy melodic hooks of pop influenced punk acts like The Runaways with guitar work that flirts with the power rock of the '90s and even classic rock at times. Big Eyes will be releasing their latest album Stake My Claim on August 19th via Don Giovanni Records, and will be kicking off their upcoming tour on August 16th at Alphaville in Brooklyn. Check out also the video for the album's title-track, streaming below.  - John Honan

Curl Up in drowse's Memory Bed

A sonic landscape blanketed with dark overtones and glum ambiance, drowse's Memory Bed EP streches slightly further from is previous works of incredibly reverb-laden drone by continuing to capture the essence of mental turmoil, only now through a more minimalistic lens.

Using just a microphone, acoustic guitar and laptop, Kyle Bates (the man behind drowse) recorded the EP directly succeeding his soon asleep album, with each release acting as the conflict and the resolution to Bates' story involving his descent into certain medications. Memory Bed is the elucidation of confusion, pain and lost intimacy expressed through processed clamor.

As drowse, Bates has made good with using female vocals as yet another instrument. On Memory Bed, Maya Stoner of Sabonis lends the serenity of her voice and personal experiences shared with Bates through lyrics in all three tracks.

Without a doubt, the Memory Bed EP is more than just an conceptual collection of songs, but it's an emotive art form.

drowse had his album release/welcome back show last night, is having a short in-store performance today at Music Millenium and will be playing again later this month as part of Festicide

In the Cut: Residuels

We first came upon Justin Pittney as the frontman for rad, mysterious, post-punk outfit Moon Women. After the group’s disbandment, he went on to form Residuels with Creepoid drummer Pat Troxell, who eventually left the group to live in Savannah, GA for a short stint to record an album and concentrate on touring with his Creepoid bandmates. Pittney continued to record under the French-inflected moniker, expanding the project to a trio that would include Mike Cammarata (Suburban Living, Drink Up Buttercup, Night Panther) on drums and Kyle Garvey (The Interest Group) on bass. The band recorded some new originals and covers that would eventually catch the attention of Iggy Pop, along with us here at The Deli Philly. We had a chance to chat with him before he takes the stage tomorrow night at PhilaMOCA to perform “a sorta of psychedelic improvised piece of music” called “Gravity”. You can check out our interview with Pittney HERE as well as a new video that he created for the centerpiece of tomorrow evening’s set (below).

New Music Video: "Punks In A Disco Bar" - Beach Slang

Beach Slang have a new album coming out September 23 on Polyvinyl, entitled A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings. They recently shared their first single from the record, "Punks In A Disco Bar," and it is now accompanied by a Jason Lester music video. Those "teenage feelings" spill out onto the screen as we follow a gang of rowdy kids out looking for a good time, which is abruptly ended by a mysterious cowboy. You can catch Beach Slang at the E Factory on Saturday, October 8 as part of a stacked lineup for the Project Pabst Citywide Festival that will also include Hop Along, Guided by Voices, Animal Collective, Mac Demarco, Diarrhea Planet, Downtown Boys, and Rebirth Brass Band.

Cloud Becomes Your Hand talk about recording on Delicious Audio

NYC's Cloud Becomes Your Hand's creative potential is on full display in their sophomore album "Rest In Flea," a multi-colored sonic adventure released by intrepid Queens label Northern Spy, home to an enviable collection of NYC's best experimental talents of all ages. But the record, a brilliantly quirky but very musical collage of robotic numbers, psychedelia and musical deconstruction, doesn't tell the whole story. With electronic xylophone, clarinet and electric violin rounding up their drum/bass/guitar sonic backbone, the sextet offers a monstrously tight live show featuring perfectly choreographed movements and sublime moments of absurdity, reminiscent of a DIY blend of Devo, Wire and The Residents.

Read the Delicious Audio Q&A with Cloud Becomes Your Hand about gear and the recording process.
