NYC Indie rockers Loose Buttons unveil video for "Thrill" and play CMJ

Loose Buttons are a young NYC based indie rock quartet bringing some sophistication (in the form of danceable grooves and refined guitars lines and melodies) to the gritty sound of the current local rock scene. Their latest track, released just a few weeks ago, is called "Thrill" (brand new video streaming below), and it's a radio-ready example of the band's talent. The guitars shift back and forth between garage-rock grit and reverb-heavy echoes, while Eric Nizgretzky's vocals carry on in an ever-so-slightly distorted way that works well with the head-bobbing rhythms of the drums and bass. The single is the group's first release since last year's second EP, "Damage Gallery," but there has been no word on whether another record is in the works. Loose Buttons will be performing on October 15 - 17, at Alphabet Lounge, Fontana's, and Rock Shop respectively, as a part of the 2015 CMJ Music Marathon. Check them out! - Patrick Wolff

The Britanys unveil new single 'City Boy' + play The Deli Garage/Slacker Rock CMJ Stage on 10.15

The fascination of the NYC scene with the garage rock sound is long lasting and probably indestructible - you can blame The Ramones. Brooklyn's The Britanys, who recently expanded their line up from power trio to... almighty quartet (?), are one of the most fun recent expressions of a genre that blends grating guitars with simple melodies and oodles of attitude. They just released this new single entitled 'City Boys,' and will be performing at our very own Garage/Slacker Rock CMJ Stage on October 15 at Muchmore's. NYC Dream Pop band Caverns unveil "Tonche" EP + play CMJ

Comprised of just three musicians, Caverns make music that plunges into many different subgenres of rock. Founded in 2012 by singer Nicola Wincenc, the NYC-based band released their first EP “Tonche” earlier this year, and has already landed some noteworthy gigs; just a few weeks ago they headlined Marc Jacobs’ NYFW show, and in another couple of weeks they will be playing the CMJ Music Marathon. Throughout their EP, Caverns smoothly blend the atmospheric soundscapes of shoegaze rock and airy melodies of psych-rock, while retaining, in their lyrics and vocal harmonies, the accessible qualities of pop music. Considering their relatable songwriting and the melodic nature of their music, Caverns is a band that has the potential to go places. - Isabel Rolston, photo by Dani Brubaker.

Twiga announced to play CMJ Music Marathon

A band eight years in the making, Brooklyn's Twiga is obviously not in a hurry. Although complex in both structure and lyrics, their music is catchy indie pop full of lazy but beautiful melodies a little reminiscent of Grandaddy, minus the whacky synths - like in streaming track "Girls."  Check out their latest EP,  "Fledglings" and - if you dig their sound - don't miss them at the upcoming CMJ Music Marathon, they are an official band!
