Weekend Warrior - September 13 - 15

Simple Pleasures, the debut EP from Sheena, Anika and Augusta, is out now via Asian Man Records. The trio is kicking off a run of dates with a matinee show this Saturday at Ortlieb’s. Sparse, folk instrumentation pairs with succinct, sincere songwriting, creating memorable imagery. Each song provides a glimpse into the artists’ intimate experiences. Weaving their vocals into a crackling fire of harmonies as the acoustic guitar and strings simultaneously knit elegant, sonic patterns, these recordings provide perspective, while evaluating situations in both the past and present. Hemming, The Goodbye Party, and Jordyn Occhipinti, as well as poetry from Sean Kearney, will also be onhand to support this Home Outgrown Presents afternoon. – Michael Colavita

Jack Larsen “Spirit”

Indie Pop Artist Jack Larsen has released a video for his latest single “Spirit”. This is Larsen’s second single of 2019 and fourth since the release of his 2018 debut album, Push-Ups.

“Spirit” is taken from Larsen’s forthcoming sophomore album, Mildew, which is set for release next month via Closed Sessions. The album is inspired by this past winter, which found Larsen bedridden in Logan Square apartment and eventually led to the discovery of a severe mold allergy.

Kidd Kenn “Bougie Fellow”

Kidd Kenn has released a new single called “Bougie Fellow” and announced he has signed with Island Records to release his forthcoming mixtape, “Child’s Play”.

The single release was accompanied by visuals, but it looks like those have been taken down. In the video, Kenn is immortalized into three different “Kenn” dolls with personality traits ranging from bougie, friendly to evil. Perhaps it was not cleared with Mattel prior to using “Kenn” dolls.

You can catch Kidd Kenn on September 14th at the second annual Camp Smokey Bear Festival along with Z Money, Queen Key, HappyBirthdayCalvin, and others.

Water From Your Eyes “Bad In The Sun” is a wild, dynamic ride, play Baby’s 9.19

“Bad In The Sun,” the newest offering by New York-based post-punk duo Water From Your Eyes, is a beautiful slow burn. Luring the listener into a false sense of trance-induced security through repetitive vocal samples and breakbeat 808s, the track eventually congeals into a harmonious vamp, wherein the chaos of their varied synth pop and new wave influences are slowly drawn back to reveal vocalist Rachel Brown’s mellifluous vocal performance and percussive, melodic guitar work. Clocking in at six minutes, it’s a wild ride that takes the listener through various musical themes incorporating IDM, folktronica, and indie rock, and demonstrates a bold vision for the group’s forthcoming LP Somebody Else’s Song. Stream it below, and catch Water From Your Eyes at Baby’s All Right on September 19th. -Connor Beckett McInerney

New Track: "Clairvoyant" - Friendship

Friendship’s forthcoming album, Dreamin’, is scheduled to arrive on November 8 via Ordinal Records. The band recently shared its lead single “Clairvoyant”. Dan Wriggins’s vocals earnestly illuminate a personal narrative that is told within the parameters of a close relationship. Ambient, country-folk instrumentation enriches the setting as the song hovers between a sustained sadness amid intimate warmth.
