I love Apocalypse rap. I can’t get enough, really. It’s especially exciting to encounter an artist who is well-articulated, imaginative, and earnest while not coming off as superior and overly didactic. With a voice like a rabid pterodactyl, Propaganda Anonymous is raging against the machine. Listening to “Squat the Condos,” it is easy to imagine him dancing around the belly of the beast, feverishly flinging monkey wrenches into the metal guts. The polished electro-hop production pulses and swirls a monstrous and hypnotic backdrop for these stark revolutionary anthems. It’s a dark album, but not without some hopeful glimmerings. It shows you the burning city, but it also shows you that you’re the one holding the torch. - BrokeMC
I know this guy!
He performs at this place I go to on Monday Night's.
Sin Sin Lounge down in the Village, is my get away from the bs.
And I've seen Propaganda Anonymous freestyle so many amazing rhyme scheme's over the years at that place.
I don't want to tell too many people about Sin Sin, just because I love it that much
But I think it's time that MC's from out of that place start to get some attention, because Propaganda and the other MC's there are some of the best I've ever seen.
Yay Prop!
I saw this dude open for Sole at The Knitting Factory awhile back.
He was the first act on the bill, but was one of the best performers.
Finally, he's getting some light because he rocked hard.
His style is like a mix of Hip-Hop and Punk.
But he doesn't try too hard to be either.
At the show, he jumped out into the crowd and started pushin audience members to get a pit going.
I grew up going to Hardcore shows, and I could see this guy leading a Hardcore band back in the day.
But unlike too many Hardcore "rapper" types,
This dude can rhyme his ass off.
Really glad to see some press on Propaganda.
He deserves to be rocking much bigger crowds than at the show I saw him at.
Good Review!
I'm not sure who those street poets are that the other comment said Prop is like
But I wanna say that I saw Propaganda Anonymous perform up in the South Bronx a few months back with many of the pioneers and Zulu heads, and this kid brought the heat!
I was pleased to see some new energy being brought to the mic.
This kid is certified Fresh yall
Def gotta give Props to both this review and my man 'Propaganda Anonymous'
FD
Prop Anon is beyond a dope MC
He's a poet. I see him as part of a lineage
of NYC street poets.
Bringing it back to the Beats.
He's like Greg Corso or Jim Carroll
but he's TODAY, he's Right Now
And he's fucking Fresh!!!!!
Props to Propaganda Anonymous
This might sound kind of trite, but imagination is one of the most crucial deciding factors that makes us pay attention to music we get introduced to. This is a quality that is definitely not missing from Night Manager's music, lead singer Caitlin Seager's melodies in particular. The Brooklyn via Paris/San Francisco band offers some of the most refreshingly catchy pop lines we heard in a long time. The gorgeous single "Ghost" (streaming here) is a glorious melange of genres, somewhat reminiscent of the carefully constructed songs from The Throwing Muses' pop masterpiece "The Real Ramona" - one of the most underestimated pop album of the 90s. Unpredictable melodies blending Cocteau Twins' heavenly beauty and The Beach Boys' harmonizing mastery, float on top of what could be described as a grunge-style track, although drenched in reverb and filtered through the NYC DIY sound of the new millennium, with all its homages to the new wave and the garage sound of the 60s. But the sonic character of the track is kind of contingent here, because the actual song is so good that it would work in any instrumental context. The other two tracks on the 7" (the band's third release), present a similar recipe, with a heavier influence of the 60's surf pop element, which awakens comparisons to west coast breakout band Best Coast.- PDG
